Equine HTMA
(Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis)
Report

The Missing Link in Your Horse's Health + Behavior

Your horse's behavior, performance, and overall well-being are shaped by far more than training or temperament — they're shaped by minerals.

Minerals are the "spark plugs" of the body. They influence everything from muscle recovery and hoof quality to digestion, hormones, behavior, emotional reactivity, and the nervous system. When a horse is deficient, overloaded, or imbalanced, symptoms begin to surface long before bloodwork ever shows a problem.

That's where Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) comes in. HTMA gives us a deeper, longer-range look into what's happening inside your horse's body so we can actually address the root causes of symptoms instead of guessing.

No Vet Required

HTMA is a non-diagnostic tool which means:

  • You do not need a veterinarian to order or complete this test

  • It does not replace veterinary care

  • It does not diagnose disease

However, I strongly believe in interdisciplinary care.

While HTMA does not require a vet, I love working alongside veterinarians when owners choose to involve them. Vet care and mineral balancing are powerful when used together. In fact, many veterinarians are not trained to interpret HTMA patterns or create mineral-based protocols, which is why having both perspectives can be so beneficial.

Your vet addresses structural, medical, and diagnostic concerns. HTMA helps us uncover the mineral and metabolic patterns that influence behavior, stress tolerance, digestion, recovery, inflammation, and overall performance.

Together, they create a more complete picture of your horse's health.

Why We use Hair, Not Blood or Urine

When it comes to minerals, blood and urine only tell a tiny fraction of the story.

Blood is Homeostasis, Not Storage

A horse's blood values are extremely tightly regulated. The body will do everything it can to keep blood levels "normal", even if that means pulling minerals from tissues, organs, cells, and bones.

This means:

  • Blood often appears normal even when imbalances exist

  • Early stress patterns, adrenal fatigue, or chronic deficiencies are often hidden

  • Toxic metals rarely show up because the body stores them in tissues, not the bloodstream

Blood shows what your horse's body is trying to maintain, not what it's struggling with internally.

Urine Shows What the Body is Dumping

Urine reflects what is being excreted, not what the horse is actually storing or lacking.  A horse can show high excretion of a mineral in urine while being deeply deficient in the tissues, bones, or cells or may show low excretion while chronically depleted. Urine is helpful for certain diagnostics, but it's not reliable for long-term mineral patterns.

Hair Shows the Truth Inside the Tissues/Cells

Hair is a stable. non-invasive tissue that accumulates minerals over ~3 months. It reflects what is being stored, buffered, or deposited inside the body.

Hair allows us to see:

  • Deficiencies & imbalances

  • Toxic metals

  • Stress + adrenal patterns

  • Metabolic type

  • Nervous system function

  • Detoxification ability

  • Thyroid Function

  • Hormones

  • Blood sugar regulation

  • Digestion function

Hair gives us the "WHY" behind what you see everyday — the behaviors, the digestive issues, the tension, the burnout, the sensitivity, and more.
